What we can help with

Support can help with using InterBuckets, unexpected app behavior, access to available features, privacy questions, and questions about purchases made through the app stores. We can review a problem report and explain the steps available in the current version of the app.

Support cannot provide investment, tax, or legal advice, make investment decisions for you, or access your bank or brokerage account on your behalf. Do not send credentials for those accounts.

Response times

For paid-app and in-app purchase questions, we respond within three business days.

Support is available in English. It is not an emergency service.

What is money-weighted return (MWR), and why does InterBuckets use it?

MWR reflects how your portfolio performed over time while accounting for when and how much money you added or withdrew. Time-weighted return (TWR) shows the portfolio’s compounded return with the effect of your cash-flow timing removed. InterBuckets uses MWR to reflect your portfolio experience over time, including your cash flows. For technical background, see the GIPS Standards Handbook for Firms, sections on money-weighted and time-weighted returns.

Illustrative price-only example in USD, with no distributions. Both scenarios follow the same share-price path: $100 → $105 → $115.50. Figures are hypothetical.

The difference between MWR and TWR reflects when money entered or left the portfolio. A contribution invested before a gain means more of your money experiences that growth. MWR includes this cash-flow experience; TWR removes its effect to show the investment path. InterBuckets uses MWR to describe how your portfolio performed over time with your contributions and withdrawals included.

What are activities, and why should I add them?

Activities are dated records of changes to your investments and cash, such as buying or selling a holding or moving money into, out of, or between accounts. They let InterBuckets reconstruct your holdings and cash over time, building a long-term performance history that reaches back to the earliest point supported by your recorded activities and available market data.

How should I record my activities?
  1. Enter activities using their actual dates. When filling in history before a holding’s recorded position date, work backward from the most recent activity to earlier ones. For activities after that date, work forward from earliest to latest. InterBuckets replays activities by date, regardless of entry order; this sequence helps keep performance history consistent as you add records.
  2. If new money from outside your portfolio funded a Buy, add a Cash movement for when it entered the account. If recorded cash and earlier sale proceeds do not fully cover a Buy, InterBuckets assumes an external contribution for the shortfall on the Buy date when calculating performance. If you later add a cash movement dated before the Buy, InterBuckets recalculates and reduces or removes that assumption.
  3. Start with the activities that had the biggest effect on your holdings and cash. You can leave out small cash movements with little effect on performance, and add a long activity history gradually.
Why do I need to confirm the date for a holding’s quantity?

The date tells InterBuckets when your recorded position begins. Choose the earliest date you can confirm for the quantity you enter. InterBuckets uses it to request available price and currency history from that point, so you can review your investment performance over a longer period. Add dated activities to record changes to the quantity over time.

Why do I need to add holdings and activities manually?

InterBuckets is designed to keep your financial records private. It doesn’t connect to banks or brokerages to import account data, so you enter holdings and activities yourself. We don’t ask for or receive your bank or brokerage login credentials. Portfolio information you enter is stored on your device rather than on MuSquared’s servers.
